Welcome to the

While each rare disease affects only a small number of patients, their global impact is staggering: over 8,000 rare conditions affect more than 300 million people worldwide. Despite this massive collective burden, the vast majority of these patients still lack effective treatments.
The core of the problem is economic: fewer patients translate to a lower financial return on investment. Consequently, drug development for rare diseases lags far behind that of more widespread pathologies.

Most rare diseases have a genetic origin. At the MedChemBeyond Lab, we bridge the therapeutic gap by leveraging advanced protein structure predictions. This allows us to interpret exactly how genetic mutations disrupt protein structure and function.
To overcome the high financial barriers of traditional drug development, we focus on structure-based drug discovery and drug repurposing. Our goal is to identify existing clinical assets that can be redirected to rare disorders, providing hope and treatment for those who would otherwise be left without care.
Our Cover Art for the Volume 17, Issue 6 of the Journal ACS Chemical Neuroscience symbolizes our approach: a synergistic workflow integrating computational and cellular approaches for Rare Diseases.
